Robert was formerly Chairman and owner of Kenyon International Emergency Services. He joined Kenyon’s Planning and Training Department in 1998. He held several positions within the company before becoming Chief Executive Officer in 2003. In 2007 he took the company private. In August 2021 he and is husband sold Kenyon, and Robert, as planned, stepped down as Chairman on December 31st, 2021.
While at Kenyon, Robert responded to numerous mass fatalities including the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, 2004 Asian Tsunami, 2005 Hurricane Katrina, 2010 Haitian Earthquake, and several airline disasters.
He regularly advised senior government and business leaders on crisis leadership and management and spoke at INTERPOL, the World Travel and Tourism Conference, the International Air Transport Association, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the Royal United Services Institute, and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth’s Wilton Park.
Prior to joining Kenyon, he served for 10 years as a U.S. Army officer in a variety of roles within the Field Artillery and Quartermaster Corps. Key roles included Company Commander for the 54th QM Company – Mortuary Affairs; Headquarters Commandant 6th US Army Recruiting Brigade, Executive Officer 6th US Army Medical Department Detachment (Recruiting) and logistics officer.
His military experience with mass fatality incidents includes leading troop deployments supporting search, recovery and repatriation of deceased military and civilian personnel and the planning and execution of the fatality support plans for the U.S. mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Haiti.
Robert also served as the lead project officer in developing the military’s first and still used Joint Manual for Military Mortuary Affairs Operations, including managing nuclear, biological, and chemical contaminated fatalities.
Robert graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. While at the university he worked for the University Police Department, and then the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve Deputy Sheriff. Robert also served in the California Army National Guard.
Robert has published two books – Mass Fatality and Casualty Incidents – A Field Guide and Personal Effects – What Recovering The Dead Teaches Me About Caring For The Living. He has also published an Op-Ed for USA Today, and is frequently interviewed by international media.
Robert is rarely found behind a desk, often he is in the field training, teaching or actively involved in operations.
